Express yourself

I was recently inspired by my "new blog friend" Sarah to paint a bit. I took some time out on Saturday and Sunday to get a painting started. It's acrylic on a long narrow piece of plywood (approx 9" x 4'6")... I left the piece in Chattanooga, and I assume I'll just slowly complete the painting as I travel up there a couple of times each month. It should be a fun project to work on for a while!

Here's a peek into what I have just barely started. This is the uppermost portion of the plywood, and the white section is gesso that I've painted on there. It will eventually be covered with color. I'm calling this "Creation"...

I've never claimed to be a great painter, but we've all got a little artist in us. Part of what makes us humans is that we have the ability to create... and I think it's important to express creativity.

How do you express yourself?

Do you sometimes feel "compelled" to make things or communicate ideas in creative ways?

Do you think that the creative process is important? If yes/no, why?

YES YES YES to all those questions...
we are created in God's image...DUH...so...when people say, "i don't have a creative bone in my body" i reply "you ARE one big creation in the image of the creatOR...it's a lie that you are not creative, don't believe it." it's just a matter of finding which "genre" (including things like math, science, and other non-artsy sorts of things) you are gifted with. God created it all and called it all good....we just need to find our particular niche of creativity or even try out the ones we'd never considered before. what have we got to lose?

don't ask me why i've suddenly abandoned capitalizing my sentences. weird.

anyway....careful with that gesso...it's so tempting to go over things you aren't pleased with rather than to keep working them until they become what they were intended to be. just a caution! :)

Cool. I like your beginning. It reminds me of when Reese and I were in Mexico a few summers back. We toured some caves and one of the caverns was very similar to a chapel. A pastor friend was with us. Reese asked if he would officiate AND we had an impromptu wedding ceremony to re-new our vows. Fun memory.
